Are You Guilty of These Style Crimes?

The Thobe is one of the most elegant garments a man can wear. It commands respect and signifies modesty. However, even the most expensive thobe can look messy if worn incorrectly.

At The Topi Wala, we want you to look your best. We’ve noticed a few common mistakes brothers make—here is how to fix them easily.

Mistake #1: The "Dragging" Hemline Some brothers buy thobes that are way too long, causing the fabric to drag on the floor. Not only does this gather dust and dirt, but it is also discouraged in the Sunnah (Isbal).

  • The Fix: Your thobe should end just above the ankles. If you are tripping over fabric, you need to size down. Check our Size Guide to find your perfect length (e.g., Size 56 vs 58).

Mistake #2: The Visible Undershirt Nothing ruins a clean look faster than a bright red graphic T-shirt showing through a crisp white thobe. Or worse, a thick crew-neck collar poking out from under the thobe’s collar.

  • The Fix: Wear a plain white V-neck undershirt or a sleeveless vest. It stays invisible and keeps the focus on the thobe.

Mistake #3: Gym Socks with Formal Thobes We see this often: A beautiful formal thobe paired with thick, white athletic socks and dress shoes. It creates a clash in formality.

  • The Fix: If you are dressing up for Jummah or an event, match your socks to your shoes (black or navy dress socks). Or, simply cover your feet with leather Khuffs.

Mistake #4: Skipping the Iron Thobe fabric (especially cotton blends) can wrinkle easily. Showing up to the Masjid in a crumpled thobe looks careless.

  • The Fix: Invest in a steamer or take 5 minutes to iron your thobe while it is slightly damp. A smooth fabric instantly looks premium. (Our Polyester Thobes are great if you hate ironing!)

Mistake #5: Ignoring the Headwear Wearing a formal thobe without a Kufi can sometimes look "incomplete," like wearing a suit without a tie.

  • The Fix: Complete the Sunnah look. You don’t need anything fancy—even a simple White Kufi ties the whole outfit together.
